Backorder Management

Backorder Management

Status: Rolling out to all users (April 22–30)

We’re excited to announce the release of a powerful new feature in CartonCloud — Backorder Management, designed to give you more control over how out-of-stock orders are handled in your workflow.

Here is a quick video showing how this new feature works!

What’s New

Backorder Management introduces a smarter way to manage Sale Orders that can’t be fulfilled immediately due to unavailable stock. With new tools, statuses, and configurable workflows, you can now:

  • Have orders with unavailable products move into a new ‘Awaiting Stock’ status.

  • Assign stock to orders manually or automatically as it becomes available.

  • Split or hold orders based on your operational preferences.

  • Get full visibility over what’s waiting, what’s fulfilled, and what’s still pending.

  • Enable notifications to stay informed when orders move into Awaiting Stock or are split.

💡 Orders from a self-managed Shopify integration configured to auto-fulfill will not support order splitting at this time (coming soon).

Workflow Options

You can now configure how you want CartonCloud to handle backorders, based on your business needs:

  • Hold entire order until all stock is available

  • Split orders when partial stock is available

  • Automatically allocate stock as it arrives

  • Manually review and allocate stock

Better Order Tracking

With the new Awaiting Stock status, you can easily:

  • Filter and view all affected orders in one place

  • Track both sides of split orders

  • Review full history logs for complete transparency

Notifications

Stay on top of changes by enabling notifications when:

  • Orders move into Awaiting Stock

  • Orders are split for partial fulfillment

Coming Soon (May 2025)

We're working on further enhancements, including:

  • Option to delay splitting orders if stock is due within a set number of days.

  • Setting to control stock allocation for Awaiting Stock orders — prevent holding stock for orders that can’t yet be shipped.
