SSCC Barcode Scanning in Putaway Mode (Android)

We're excited to announce that CartonCloud now supports SSCC (GS1-128) barcode scanning directly within Putaway Mode on Android devices. Warehouse operators can now scan a single GS1 barcode at the point of putaway to automatically capture product code, batch or lot number, expiry date, and quantity — no manual data entry required.

When a GS1-128 barcode is scanned from the Purchase Order Product list, CartonCloud automatically matches it to the correct Purchase Order Product, splits the quantity if needed, applies all encoded fields from the barcode, and marks the item as confirmed — all from a single scan. If the scanned product isn't found on the Purchase Order, the app can prompt you to automatically create a new Purchase Order Product record from the barcode data, keeping the putaway process moving without interruption.

The feature also supports a secondary scan step: if required custom fields are configured for a customer but weren’t present in the first barcode, the app will prompt for a second scan to capture it before completing the putaway step.

A few things to note:

  • Android only — SSCC scanning in Putaway Mode requires the CartonCloud Android app version 6.48.0 or higher. iOS is not supported at this time.

  • SSCC must be enabled for your account — this is an add-on feature. Contact your CartonCloud administrator if SSCC is not currently active for your tenancy.

  • Application Identifiers must be configured — Purchase Order Product Custom Fields need to be mapped to the relevant GS1 Application Identifiers in your customer settings before scanning will populate field data correctly.

  • Bluetooth scanner compatibility — some Bluetooth HID scanners cannot pass through GS1 control characters (FNC1) directly. Configure your scanner to replace these with a recognised substitute character (e.g. |) and verify the output using the app's Barcode Scan Tester.
